Message from the Dean of Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Auckland is internationally recognised for its tradition of excellence in teaching and research. The Faculty’s vision for the future is based on learning and research excellence, producing graduates who are well-equipped to play leading roles in the society.
Our research facilities are of a very high international standard and include state-of-the art equipment. We have a wide range of research activities across the Engineering disciplines and much of the work undertaken is recognised as being internationally leading. We also have an excellent track record in engaging with industry and commerce to solve applied problems.
Our Faculty has over 150 academic staff, approximately 2500 undergraduate students and over 500 postgraduate students. We have a vibrant student life and our students as well as our academics are recognised world-wide for their academic achievements.
Each year we receive inquiries from Indian Institute of Technology students requesting summer internships in our Faculty and, in order to help students find appropriate projects together with funding for the period of study, this year we have launched the University of Auckland IIT Engineering Internship Programme. A minimum of five internships will be offered every year and we welcome applications from high-performing IIT students for a placement. Suitable applicants would currently be in their third or final year of a BTech programme at an IIT, and able to come to Auckland between May and July 2010.
Within the Faculty of Engineering we have five academic departments and offer nine undergraduate specialisations.
